The stretch of the Interstate 95 that collapsed in Philadelphia on June 11, 2023, has been a national news story, gaining political attention from President Biden, US Transportation Secretary Buttigieg, and PA State Governor Shapiro. After a fuel tanker truck crashed on the road below and burst into flames burning the steel beams supporting the elevated roadway, State officials had predicted a disruption well into the summer months.
Mobilizing quickly to address the State’s emergency, the expedited efforts by the Kutztown, PA precast plant contributed to the faster-than-expected reopening of the temporary six-lane roadway.
Working 2 shifts through the weekend, our team came together to produce 15 pieces of custom bifurcated concrete glare screen median barrier in record time. Safety barriers provide the necessary protection between northbound and southbound traffic through the newly open lanes. While a temporary solution as the permanent bridge is rebuilt, the project was an opportunity for us to showcase our capabilities and ability to take an immense challenge and turn it into something positive. The project itself has alerted public to the importance of infrastructure investment and the rapid pace of which construction can effectively happen in.
